Philip-Franz Seitz, PhD, has over 30 years’ experience as a U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Officer. During his Foreign Service career, he was a Foreign Policy and Affairs Adviser to the Commanding General of the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC). SDDC is the Army service component command of the U.S. Transportation Command, synthesizing numerous solutions to both tangible and intangible logistics problems encountered in often inhospitable environments. Phil served overseas in China, Germany (twice), Vietnam, Afghanistan (twice), Ghana and Nigeria and has unique insights and problem-solving skills that acquired only under the unique and often adverse circumstances that emerge while conducting logistics operations.
He was also rotated to numerous positions spanning from logistics, cultural insights and local strategic judgment to management of consular activities, involving general administration and visas, giving him both breadth and depth in understanding local scenarios.
Philip-Franz Seitz grew up in Glencoe, IL, and graduated from New Trier East High School. He received a B.A. in Linguistics from Occidental College and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania. After spending ten years in scientific research at Oxford University (UK), l’Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (Québec), Gallaudet University and Walter Reed Army Medical Center, he received a presidential commission as a U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Officer.
He received numerous awards and medals from the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Army, culminating in the Secretary of State’s Career Achievement Award.
